Vancouver Girl

Having a girl in Vancouver is tough. It seems like the
attitudes of young women have changed dramatically since I was a girl, and given
the
things that are shown on TV and movies
nowadays, it does not surprise me that more and more young girls are becoming pregnant at
earlier ages. What's a mother to do, when she's done all she can to help her
daughter understand the ills of society?

Change is Good?

Something tells me that our area is due for a drastic change. Given the
Olympics being here recently, I've observed some major changes to our town,
and
some are not for the better. Is there a way to appease the masses while
staying true to your constituents? I think that the answer is no.

Cerebral Sizeistry

Evolutionary futurism, especially in a science-fiction context, concerns
itself greatly with cerebral hypertrophy.

Best of YouTube

I don't watch as many movies as I used to. Largely because I'm less often
up for a 90-120+ minute commitment. Too lazy. I watch a lot of TV, especially PVRed or acquired from the netosphere.
Discovery Channel, History Channel, Food Network. Aqua Teen.

There's a huge amount of entertainment to be had in snippets of even less
than 24 or 48 minutes, too. Here's this week's Best of YouTube.

Let me know how you liked it.

Hidden Powers of Rain

Rain is the cure for life's
ailments; in the rain
your tears are guarded, and in
its noise your cries are not heard. Instead of loathing the rain today, I will embrace it for
its healing powers. _ I'm a mother, blogger, and fashion expert who enjoys ethnic dining and
esoteric conversations. When not buried in work behind the computer, I can
be found working on the next big thing. -Posted by Lyn Valerie

Composting and You

Recycling is not only good for the environment, it is good for your soil;
composting is a great way to keep your gardens growing healthy and strong.
Remember to preserve all of your old food waste to add to your garden today!

Is It?

Is it secret? Is it safe? Gandalf wanted to know.

Most of the time we only care about safety. Secrecy isn't so crucial.

Rain-spiration

I get my best inspiration from rain; it seems as if I could write for hours as the rain beats
rhythmically against my windowpane.
What a soothing way to end the day. - -

Chocolate Rain

I love to embrace my husband when its raining. Thunder and lighting brings a
surge to our relationship, and ignites a spark in our hearts. After looking
at the forecast, I noticed that it is going to rain for quite some time; I
couldn't be happier.

Small Girl, Big Truck

I've always wanted a big, overbearing truck. It's something about a petite
woman driving a big truck that screams "get out of the way!" In my life,
people tend to overlook me because of my size; with my new big truck, I can
now let everyone know who I am!

May 12

On this day in 1941 Konrad Zuse presented the Z3, the world's first working programmable, fully automatic computer, in Berlin.  In a sense one could trace this post's genesis to that red-letter day.

Speaking Of Head Gashes

A blown head gasket is bad, but a head gash is just plain painful. A fitness training client this morning told me about his 22 month old son who decided to bounce on mom & dad's bed. Then he decided to jump off. He bashed his noggin on the corner of dad's bedside table. Fortunately big sister (Kindergarten) called for help, noting "there's blood!" Poor little gaffer had 6 stitches on the outside and another several on the inside; the gash was down to the skull!

I suggest banning bedside tables. Maybe beds, too.

An Unexpected Scar

A car sales showroom.  A 68 Chevelle, hood open to expose the rebored 454 with nitrous system.  A salesperson distracted by conversation.  An artificial plant and a narrow path. A rapid walk.  These factors combined together when the salesperson bashed his head against the corner of the open hood, producing a 2-inch gash in his forehead.  A gusher.

Safety can fail at any time.  Fortunately there was gauze.  And co-workers to help.

This Is What Safety Means To Us

The backlash against overprotectiveness in our culture is on!  We all want to be safe, but more and more of us are unwilling to accept that safety is equivalent to eliminating all conceivable risk or responsibility.  The emerging concept of safety includes common sense, living defensively, and embracing risk which is actually statistically insignificant.
